Can a prosecutor plea bargain a charge without the judges authorization?

In other words, can the da just agree to plea bargain down a case since they are the one who handles the charge/

      That’s always how it works — the prosecutor is the one who does the negotiating. Generally the judge will go along with the deal that’s been struck, but the judge still has to approve it, and can nix the whole deal if he or she doesn’t like it,

      But again, that’s quite rare.
